Benin, Asaba and Warri and targeted at children in orphanages, schools for the handicapped, served at least 1,500 children.

The District Governor, Laitan Onolaja thanked the host community especially medical personnel led by Dr. Abidemi Sosanya for making the venue available. According to him, Lion Service for children was established by Lion International in 2003 with the aim to cater for the disadvantaged children in the society.

Chairperson, Lions Service for Children District 404 1A, Sylvia EffahDiejomaoh said the service for children activities has always been there but this is the first time it has been made public. She said the initial challenge was to get people to believe in the organisation. With an awareness campaign last March, confidence has been boosted, leading to a good turnout of children with their parents.

Established in 1917, Lions International is the world’s largest service organisation with 1.35 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in 208 countries. One of its strongest commitments is to aid the blind and visually impaired.
