CITN Inducts 645 New Professional Members

-

In a bid to promote professionalism, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has inducted 645 new members.

During the event, which took place recently in Lagos, the CITN President, Mr. Mark Anthony Dike said the induction was a formal way of inducting members who satisfied all the requirements of the institute’s charter.

In his speech, he explained that it was also an opportunity and authority for them to be addressed as tax professionals of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Dike also pointed out that being a tax professional now in the country is challenging especially against the backdrop of that the price of oil has continued to fall even as its effect is seriously telling on revenue generation and the economy.

“A cursory look at the federal government’s budget recently passed by both chamber of the National Assembly suggests that a lot is needed to be done by the government to meet the revenue projections in the budget, “he said.

Furthermore, he noted that CITN had been engaging in strong advocacy of sensitising its various stakeholders on the need for good tax compliance and transparency by both taxpayers and government respectively.

According to Dike, who also doubles as Chairman of Council, “our members also have a crucial role to play in this regard. I urge our inductees to brace up to the challenges they will face as tax professionals”.

On professional practice monitoring, he posited that in order to ensure that members adhere to standards and regulations of good tax practice, CITN have mandated its Professional Practice Monitoring Committee to carry out constant monitor- ing of members in practice for strict adherence to professional ethics and standards.

Dike, however, stressed during his admission speech that the inductees decision to become members is a wise choice because taxation has become a beautiful bride that is being courted by all.

Meanwhile, the Registrar / Chief Executive, Mr. Adefisayo Awogbade said the event was organised for the inductees to be exposed to the leadership vision of the institute.

He also averred that it will further acquaint them with important issues within the taxation profession.
