The tournament paraded a field of 160 golfers of the legal profession, and members of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja. It was teed off by Governor-elect Plateau State, Rt Hon. Simon Lalong who is a lawyer and a golfer with 11 handicaps.

Abang posted 70 nett( on count back) to secure his first ever amateur victory since he began playing golf two years ago.

Afterwards, he summed up his win as the end result of a “symbolic translation of a combination of consistency, persistence and skill”.

His frustrating wait for “honour” on the front was finally rewarded when he birdied the par 5 11th after hitting the green in regulation.

“It feels special because it’s my first birdie on this course since I started playing golf in 2013. The conditions were favorable but I missed a couple of shots because of inconsistency in my decision making. However, I am fulfilled as will go down as my best round as a golfer, “he said with a gush of satisfaction.

Omoluwa, a 12- handicapper, who played his afternoon flight with Tony Azogu, Paul Erokoro and Rear Admiral Victor Adedipe, carded 71 to edge B. Obaleye on count back for the net trophy.

Peter Oyewole won the best nett in the Bar category matching the day’s best round of 70 nett.

Oyewole remained composed on the last three holes on the back despite a bad drive on the 14th and a seven down on the 15th after finding the Out of Bounds.

Justice Jimoh Lambo won the best nett for the Bench with 80 beating Justice Sadiq Umar and Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi.
