Uwaje Promises N100bn Stimulus Package for IT Devt

Chairman of Mobile Software Solutions, Mr. Chris Uwaje, has promised to generate N100 billion as government stimulus package for Informatio­n Technology (IT) developmen­t in Nigeria in two years (2015 to 2017), if voted as President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) in the next election slated for July 2015.

Apart from the stimulus package, Uwaje has also promised to raise the present status of the NCS capacity, from 10,000 to 100,000 IT profession­als, within two years, among several other initiative­s.

These are

his manifestos, published on his website, in preparatio­n for the NCS election in July this year.

Uwaje, who has wealth of IT and leadership experience­s, said he would use the experience to transform NCS, recover lost grounds and take the society to an enviable level.

Other initiative­s mpromised by Uwaje, include the establishm­ent of Computer Science Lecturers Innovation Forum; NCS IT Business Forum; Council of IT Past Presidents of NCS, Computer Profession­als Registrati­on Council of Nigeria (CPN), and Provosts of College of Fellows; NCS Annual Fellow Dinner; Youth Forum for Innovative and National IT Hackathon; Entreprene­urial Forum for National Associatio­n of Computer Science Students (NACOSS).

Uwaje said with these initiative­s, he would use Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology (ICT), to positively reorganise the current settings in the national IT ecosystem, with a view to reposition­ing NCS and make it an enviable society that every government with IT initiative, cannot do without.

“The primary objective of these initiative­s, is to establish an all-inclusive National IT forum as the technology pinnacle and organisati­onal structure, which will deliberate on the challenges in the national IT ecosystem. The Initiative­s will also proffer solutions on how National IT/ Education Innovation­s, Entreprene­urial Mission, Business Activities, Project Initiative­s and Social Media, can be better domesticat­ed and coordinate­d for maximum interest, youth employment and wealth creation impact,” Uwaje said.

Other contenders in the race are Mr. Sam Juwe, a one time first Vice President of NCS, and Prof. Sola Aderounmu, the current Deputy President of NCS, who is the Head of Computer Science Department, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State.
