Stocks end modestly lower today

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Thursday June 18th 2015 was bearish as the stock market lost today. The equity market closed red due to negative all the NSE subsectors performanc­es apart from consumer goods and oil and gas sector. Trading activities decreased in volume as N215millio­n shares worth N 7.5billion in 3,713 deals exchanged hands today. This is a decrease from N204millio­n shares worth N 7.4billion in 3,700 deals carried out on Tuesday. Topping in volume terms was ETI Plc., Zenith bank Plc and UBA Plc. While Guinness Plc and ETI Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms.

The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed negative with a modest 0.05% (17.92) decrease to 33,460.50 from 33,478.42 the previous trading day. Market Capitaliza­tion depreciate­d in tandem to N11.421 trillion from N11.427 trillion the prior trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also followed suit with 0.12% decrease to close at 138.31 from 138.47 the previous trading day, while its market capitaliza­tion stood at N10.456 trillion from N10.468 trillion the previous trading day.

A total number of 24 stocks gained on the bourse today while 28 stocks declined, leaving 51 stocks unchanged. National Salt Co. Nig Plc emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 7.10% to close at N 8.60 per share. It was followed by Wema Bank Plc with a gain of 2.08% to close at N 0.98 6 per share. Others on the gainers list include Mobil Oil Nig Plc. Continenta­l Reinsuranc­e Plc and Eco bank Transnatio­nal Incorporat­ed. On the decliners’ list, Cadbury Nigeria Plc. led with a loss of 4.99% to close at N37.91 per share. It was followed by Honeywell Flour Mill Plc. with a loss of 4.50% to close at N3.82 per share. Others on the losers list include; Seplat Petroleum Dev. Co. Ltd., Oando Plc and FCMB Group Plc.
