Udoh Shoots Sunshine Stars to League Pinnacle Again

-

Defender Kingsley Udoh yesterday returned Sunshine Stars to the top of the Glo Premier League by scoring a stoppage time goal to give his team a 2-1 victory over Warri Wolves at the Ondo State Sports Complex.

it was a fiercely contested Match Day 12 fixture and it was Adeniji Tunde who tested Daniel Akpeyi, in goal for Warri Wolves, as early as the second minute but the goalkeeper reacted well with a brilliant save.

Then Wolves’ Azeez Abu missed the chance to put his side in front two minutes later when he shot wide from close range.

Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, popularly calleed Mosquito, shot Wolves into the lead on the 10th minute after a beautiful interchange with two of his teammates inside Sunshine’s vital area.

Akpeyi denied Sunshine the opportunity to draw level when he intercepted Dele Olorundare’s flick on 20th minute.

Mosquito threatened again on the 29th minute but his effort was deflected by a Sunshine player and the ball hit the woodwork and bounced back into the field of play.

Stephen Eze, however, restored Sunshine to parity on the 32nd minute when he rose above Wolves defenders to nod home off a corner kick to bring scores to 1-1 at half time.

Sunshine came into the second half looking for the winning goal and Akpeyi was at his best as he dived, punched and parried the ball to frustrate the host team.

Following a barrage of late pressure and urged on by the full house at the Akure Township Stadium, Kingsley Udoh ensured three points for Sunshine as he nodded home off a stoppage time corner kick. The goal ignited a grand celebration of dance and songs inside the stadium with the fans mobbing the players in adulation.
