Plateau Begins Payment of Workers' Salary Backlog

In fulfillment of its campaign promises, Plateau State government has commenced the payment of salary arrears to its Civil Servants, assuring them that payments on monthly basis alongside the subsisting salaries would continue until it was cleared.

In a statement signed by Governor Simon Lalong’s Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA), Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, the government, while commending the workers for their patience, resilience and rare understanding, said it would intensify negotiations on other aspects of the workers’ demands.

He further assured that, as part of his good governance policy, workers welfare would be given priority, charging them to as partners in the new Plateau project, commit the best of their services in ensuring that all the deficits in service provision on account of the strike were made up for.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and her affiliates, the Joint Union of Plateau State Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI) and the Judicial Staff had embarked on strike severally in recent days to press home demands which include non-payment of salaries. The Governor had appealed the workers to resume work while he got round the problems.

Lalong in keeping to his promises and the terms of negotiations which called for the suspension of the strike action, directed the commencement of the payment of the salary arrears to different sectors of the state workforce.

He also pleaded for patience and understanding on the part of the workers as credible options were being explored to address all the issues of governance and matters of interest to the citizenry begging for attention.
