•Says he’s well motivated for the fight
Nigeria’s boxing sensation, Gifted Cole will defending his World Boxing Federation title as he takes on Mexican champion, Yair Agular in a 10- round encounter this evening at The Riverdale Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
The title fight is coming under the bill of Sugar Bert Boxing Promotions.
The undefeated Nigerian boxer, currently ranked 13th in the world, is fast moving to top rankings, just as he’s carving a niche for himself in the boxing world.
Outside of the ring, Cole has also been appointed, U.N. Peace Ambassador; he has been consistently giving back to the community through initiatives all over Africa.
In a WhatsApp chat with THISDAY, Cole said he is very well prepared for the fight.
“I'm ready for the fight in spite of the fact that I spent two weeks in Nigeria before this fight. It didn't take anything away from my preparation and plan for the fight. I have my plans and strategy well mapped out for the night of the fight. I ready in my mind, body and soul to make Nigeria proud,” the Abia State born boxer said.
Continuing, Cole said he would be going for an early knockout and hope to end the fight between the second or third round. “After I would have tested his jaw in the first round, I know my plan will work as planned by God's grace,” he said.
The boxer who cut his teeth in Ajegunle and Festac in Lagos however admitted he knows little about his opponent.
“I don't know anything about my opponent , all I know that he has more ring experience than me and that's the more reason I should give him a tough,” he noted.
Cole said he wants to use his victory over Agular as a wedding anniversary gift for his parents.
“I want to say a big thank you to all Nigerians that have been praying for me, my mum, dad and all the fans that will be at the arena to cheer me to victory. And I want to use the win as a gift to my parents for their 40th wedding anniversary that is coming up on July 12.
Cole will be defending his WBF title for the first time he won it 2013 against Tom Reiche of Germany.
The boxing event which will take place at The Riverdale Centre for the Arts, 7210 Church St in Riverdale, GA, kicks off at 5 p.m. Nigerians residing in the United States have been charged to come out in their numbers and bring their green and white flag to support Cole in what promises to be a night of non-stop action. Tickets for the fight are priced at $100 (Ringside) $75 (VIP) & $25 (General Admission).
