Police Arrest 30 Suspected Cultists in Ogun

-

No fewer than 30 suspected cultists have been nabbed by the police in Ogun State. The suspects were picked up at various locations in Ijebu Ode, following raids carried out by teams on special operations on black spots such as Fadipe Street, Ijebu Ode, Ogbogbo Village, Apapa, Iwemeje Village and some hotels within the ancient city.

Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests in a press release.

According to Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the arrest of the 30 suspects followed the determination of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu, to rid the state of unwholesome activities of cultists and other vices.

The police spokesman stated that in a bid to actualise the determination of ridding Ijebu Ode and its environs of the activities of cultists and other vices, the CP had deployed more than 10 teams comprising operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Robbery unit of the Department of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence (DCII), Police Mobile Force (PMF) and State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Mr. Shina Olukolu.

He said that the raid led to the arrest of prime suspects and their kingpins who had been involved in many criminal acts, including series of killings in the area and other parts of the state.

Adejobi, gave the names of the kingpins as Gbenga Banjo (aka Obalufon), Dammy, Jawando, Kazeem Akeem ( aka Obalofin ), Oluwatimilehin Akintunde ( aka Majek ), Olootu Lukman ( aka Eba Neyo ) and Oladele Oluniga.

A score of those arrested, Adejobi said, had been arraigned in court in Ijebu Ode.

According to Adejobi, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu, had directed for thorough investigation into the matter, vowing that his command would not allow any individual or a group of hoodlums to truncate the existing security arrangements in the state.

It was gathered that the CP further vowed to take the fight against cultism and other vices to the doorsteps of the hoodlums.

The CP, it was learnt, appealed to the general public, especially the people of Ijebu Ode and its environs to support of the police in the fight and also, believe in the capability of the police and other security agencies in tackling the menace headlong.
