Monarch Advocates Constitutional Role for Royal Fathers

- Charles Onyekamuo in Awka

The newly crowned king of Alor kingdom in the Idemili South council Area of Anambra State, Igwe Mc Anthony Chinedu Okonkwo has advocated a definite constitutional role for Traditional Rulers across the country and the implementation of the 5% constitutionally approved annual budget of each state for Traditional Rulers in Anambra state.

Igwe Okonkwo who addressed the media in his palace recently shortly after being crowned the Ezedioramma III of Alor kingdom by Ndi-Ichies of Alor (King makers) led by Agubanze Nicholas Onyechi from Uruezeani village of the town who performed the coronation preceded by a 21 gun salute said a constitutional role for natural rulers would create that sense of worth in them.

The Traditional ruler who was elected on May 17, 2014 through a rigorous selection process in which seven other illustrious sons of the community contested explained that he had sent a memo to the immediate past seventh senate and the presidency to that effect last year after receiving his certificate of recognition from the Anambra state government but nothing was heard of it.

He also said that he would like a situation in which Traditionally Rulers in the country were treated fairly and equally by the Federal government without discrimination, adding that Traditional Rulers in the South East were the same as their counter-pasts in the Northern and South-Western parts of the country.
