Adamawa Govt Empowers over 3,000 Victims of Boko Haram

Adamawa government has disclosed that over 3,000 victims of the Boko Haram onslaught, especially women and youths, have been trained and empowered with equipment to alleviate their living conditions in the state. While speaking to journalist­s in Yola yesterday regarding the empowermen­t programme, Head of the State’s Socio-economic Evaluation Programme, Alhaji Sadiq Daware, said the training was carried out in the first quarter of the year, adding that more victims are still undergoing training and will soon graduate and be empowered.

Daware stated that the programme was aimed at assisting the less privileged particular­ly women and youths to be self-reliant, especially those in the areas affected by Boko Haram.

“In the first quarter of this year, over 3,000 women and youths across the state were captured, trained and equipped on basic skills particular­ly the less-privileged and victims of the Boko Haram onslaught in the state. Some of the skills include auto-mechanic, computer and electronic­s repairs, cosmetolog­y, tiling, catering, electrical repairs, tailoring and others,” Daware said. He also said the trainees were equipped with free tools and machines to enable them start their businesses.

Daware called on women and youths yet to benefit from the programme to make effort to locate their office so as they are captured. He explained that the major problem affecting the smooth progress of the programme was lack of law to give it a legal backing.
