Agwai Heads C’ttee to Find Solutions to Kaduna Killings

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Martin Luther Agwai is to head a committee set up by the Kaduna state government to tackle the persistent attacks on rural communitie­s in the southern part of the state by gunmen.

The setting up of the committee came on the heels of Thursday’s attack on Katsak village in Jama’a local government and Angwan Danborno village in Birnin Gwari local government of the state by unknown gunmen, leading to the death of a total of 13 people while 15 others were injured.

The state government in a statement yesterday explained that the setting up of the committee was part ofthe multi-dimensiona­l approach in finding lasting solutions to the killings in Southern Kaduna since 2011.

The statement signed by Special Assistanto­n Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said the committee has 30 days within which to submit its report to government.

The committee, according to the statement is expected to identify socio-political and economic factors that promote existing conflicts in Southern Kaduna and advise on measures to be taken by government to address them.

Governor El-Rufai on Friday held an emergency meeting with following the attack that led to the killing of 13 people in the two villages. The meeting reviewed the security situation in the state following the attacks.

The meeting also appraised the deployment of security personnel and stressed the importance of partnershi­p between traditiona­l rulers, religious leaders and other critical stake holders in strengthen­ing intelligen­ce gathering.
