A non-profit organisation, the Save Our Needy, in its commitment to promote and encourage early-child development and basic education among disadvantaged children in the society, in collaboration with Shoprite Community Network, has donated some teaching and learning materials to Progress Nursery and Primary School, FESTAC, Lagos, and renovated some of its classrooms.

At the launch of the charity organisation’s maiden ‘Better Life through Education’ project at the school recently, the CEO of the organisation, Marvella Odili, said the focus of the organisation is to alleviate poverty through education, youth and women empowerment and that the project was in consonance with its vision to promote teaching and learning by creating conducive environment for the children and teachers in low income schools across the country.

“The project is intended to give children in public schools an incentive to enjoy learning so that they can improve on their academic performance and as well make them enjoy their childhood. It is disheartening to note that in the 21st century, some children termed ‘disadvantaged’ are deprived of learning in a conducive environment because they are not from rich homes. “It has become increasingly clear that the efficiency of pupils’ learning is dependent on their environment. It is for this reason we’re here today to make learning conditions better for all the children of Progressive Nursery and Primary School, FESTAC Town, Lagos.

On the organisation’s partnership with Shoprite, Odili explained that the super market plans to open a new branch in FESTAC and the donation was a way to give back to the society. Receiving the items, white board, nursery equipment among others, the Head teacher of the school, Mrs. T.A. Ajayi, thanked the donors for their kind gesture, saying that the materials would enable them operate in cleaner classrooms and improve the standard of teaching in the school.
