The immediate past Director of Naval Education, Commodore James Edako has said the academic performance of students in naval schools has improved in recent times.

Edako, who said this during the handover to his successor, Commodore Aminu Almu, said the students’ performance has given credit to the directorate, commandants, staff and students of the school.

“In the 2013/2014 session, the overall performance of students at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was 75 per cent credit, including English Language and Mathematics. Nigerian Navy Staff School in Abeokuta and Port Harcourt recorded far better performance than in previous years. The feat was recorded in spite of the abysmal national average of 31.7 per cent.”

He also said his tenure achieved the introduction of e-registration for candidates for admission into JSS 1 in Nigerian Navy Secondary Schools. “This has eliminated manual processing of application forms though at a higher cost. However, it is now possible to obtain entrance examination numbers as soon as the registration is concluded and forms submitted.”

Edako, who is the 14th director of naval education, also expressed gratitude to his predecessor, officers, men and civilian staff of the directorate and school.

Also speaking, Almu who thanked the NN authorities for the opportunity to serve said he would discharge his duties according to the mandate of the directorate. He also appealed to the officers and men to accord him the same support as his predecessor.
