Set Donu Kogbara Free

-

The spectre of insecurity was on display in Port Harcourt again on Sunday with the abduction of popular columnist, Donu Kogbara. She was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen in front of her house.

Since then the respected lady has remained in captivity without a word from her abductors much to the agony of her family including the aged mother as well as many friends and well wishers. It is painful to imagine that this is now the lot of this lady, a good daughter of the Kogbara family in Ogoniland, who carries herself with dignity of purpose.

We do not know yet the motives of the abductors.

Ironically, Ms Kogbara has over the years focussed on the problems of injustice, poverty, and youth unemployment in her perceptive column. Insecurity is doubtless related to these socio-economic and political problems. Kogbara has proffered ideas about how to make the Niger Delta a region that could offer justice, prosperity and peace to all the people.

It is reassuring that the police is said to be “on top of the situation.”

Meanwhile we appeal to the abductors to let this harmless lady regain her freedom.
