Ambode Mourns Fernandez

-

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday expressed sadness over the death of one of Nigeria’s prominent business mogul and diplomat, Chief Antonio Oladeinde Fernandez. He passed on at the age of 79 on Tuesday in Brussels, Belgium, following an undisclosed illness. Ambode in a condolence message signed by his Chef Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, described the deceased as a bureaucrat and experienced diplomat who gave his all to the service of the African continent during his lifetime. The governor also paid glowing tribute to the business tycoon, whom he said offered himself for service to ensure the unity of the nation adding that he would remain a true hero of the country. He said the leadership role of the late Fernandez who saw himself foremost as an African serving as representative for Mozambique, as well as the Central African Republic at the United Nations, should be an inspiration to all. “Among other virtues, Fernandez dedicated himself to the service of the African nation and will be remembered for his contribution to promote peace, harmony and above all equity. He has surely left his footprints on the sands of time,” he said. The governor added that it was quite remarkable that the late Fernandez had the privilege of being among the few diplomats that played a prominent role in promoting peace in Africa and had taken ambassadorial positions in many African countries.
