Chapels Set Glory in Seven Sports

Defending champions of the yearly Med-View/Lagos NUJ Media Games, Vanguard Newspapers ‘Kirikiri Warriors’ will begin the defence of their football title they won last year against Complete Sports.

At the draw ceremony held yesterday, at the Lagos SWAN Secretaria­t inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, 16 teams would be taking part in the football event billed to hold at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The 16 teams were drawn into four groups comprising of four teams while the first two teams from each of the groups would qualify for the quarterfin­als.

In Group A are Vanguard; Complete Sports; Business Plus and The Source while Lagos Informatio­n; Federal Informatio­n; Voice of Nigeria (VON) and Federal Radio Corporatio­n of Nigeria (FRCN) are in Group B.

Lagos Television will play against Daar Communicat­ions, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and SilverBird Television (STV) in Group C while Group D has last year’s runner up, SportsDay; Daily Independen­t; The Sun and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

Unfolding plans for this year’s event, which is the 10 edition, chairman of Lagos NUJ, Comrade Deji Elumoye urged participan­ts to shun the use of mercenarie­s and see the Games as not-a-do-die affair but as a way of relaxation among members of the Union.

He said:“This is a yearly event in the calendar of the Lagos NUJ and we’ve promised to continue to organise the event with the support of all and sundry.

“We should also see the event as a well of making friends and relaxing after a hectic working hours in the office and not a do-or-die affair, so we must all shun the use of mercenarie­s”.
