LEAVE ABUBAKARTSAV ALONE

-

Recently, I read a story that Benue’s elders had disowned Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, former Lagos State Commissioner of police and currently, a commissioner, Public Complaints Commission. Tsav is one of the few people in Benue State and Nigeria at large that can speak the truth even when his life is at stake. Tsav’s constant attacks on political office holders through his speeches and comments with regard to their dishonest actions toward the poor are noteworthy.

Therefore, for some Benue elders to disown Alhaji Tsav due to the fact that he criticised Governor Samuel Ortom and his policies is ludicrous. These persons must be looking for recognition in Ortom’s administration. These are the same elders who sought recognition from the former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam and they were acknowledged by Suswam, used and dumped. I am aware that these same elders were given millions of naira by the former governor of the state to help him actualise his ambition of becoming a senator in 2015 and in installing Terhemen Tarzoo as the governor of the state. The so-called elders were aware of Suswam’s inability to pay the salaries and allowances of the workers in the state but they still went ahead and collected the money and today, the present governor of the state Ortom is battling with debts left behind. What kind of elders are they?

However, elders should not present themselves only when they want to disown somebody for their selfish interest. Elders should not surface only when they want to receive money and support one’s ambition for political position; elders should not reveal themselves only when they want to be recognised or acknowledged by the governor or other political office holders in the country.

Can we now have elders that can speak the truth? Can we have elders that can give good advice to our leaders and not to support the leaders for their selfish ends? Can we have elders that can call a political office holder to order when he or she is going astray? Awunah Pius Terwase, Mpape, Abuja
