Work to Resume at Owerri Airport Cargo Terminal
Work will soon resume on the cargo terminal project at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, to facilitate the commencement of international air cargo operations, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Hajia Binta Adamu Bello has said.
Conducting the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, on inspection of the project site in Owerri recently, Bello said, when it becomes operational, the facility would boost economic activities in the South East geo-political zone of the country and other surrounding states.
She told the Governor and his entourage, including the state’s Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere that work on the cargo terminal’s foundation had been com- pleted while the imported super structure of the building would arrive the country soon.
The permanent secretary also assured Governor Okorocha that contractors handling the project had been sufficiently mobilised and were only awaiting the arrival of the super structure to commence work on the site.
The Governor was also shown the cargo screening machines already supplied at the site that were only awaiting installation, as soon as the project was completed.
In his response, Okorocha said he was pleased with the extent of development at the cargo terminal and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving approval to the early completion of the project to boost economic development in the South East geo-political zone of the country.
