Igbokwe SAN Appointed as Regional Representative of IBA’s Maritime and Transport Law Committee
Mr.. Mike Igbokwe SAN was appointed the Regional Representative Africa of IBA’s Maritime and Transport Law Committee for a two-year term starting from 2016 at the recently concluded IBA Conference in Vienna. The announcement of the appointment was made by Mr. Ricardo Rozas, the Committee’s Chairman at the Committee’s dinner held at the Aux Gazalles, Vienna on 7th October, 2015. By virtue of the appointment, He would become one of the Committee’s Officers from 2016.
The Maritime and Transport Law Committee is one of the Committees under the Maritime and Aviation Section of the Legal Practice Division of the IBA. According to the IBA website, ‘through the various committees of the divisions, the IBA enables an interchange of information and views among its members as to laws, practices and professional responsibilities relating to the practice of business law around the globe.’ The Committee organises ‘specialist conferences yearly where members connect to discuss the latest issues within their field as well as making international contacts’. It also publishes regular news and articles for its members and may undertake various projects of relevance to its practice area.
Mr. Mike Igbokwe’s appointment is in recognition of his contributions to the development of the work of the Committee in particular and IBA in general in maritime law and he asserts that it is an honour done to Nigeria and Africa as whole which he intends to uphold and use to promote the ideals and aims of the Committee and IBA in Nigeria and Africa.
