Buhari to Inaugurate Three Choppers, Two Patrol Boats in Lagos Tomorrow

In a move aimed at declaring war on criminals in Lagos State, President Muhammadu Buhari will inaugurate three helicopter­s, two patrol boats and 31 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) tomorrow.

The president will also hand over 100 motorcycle­s, 13 BM power bikes, 60 Ford salon cars, 55 Ford Rangers, 40 Toyota salon cars, 10 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, police uniforms and other kits.

This was contained in a statement by the Commission­er for Informatio­n & Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, noting that the handing over was part of the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to unleash total war on criminals.

The commission­er said the inaugurati­on of the security equipment would mark the rebranding and reposition­ing of its Rapid Response Squad (RRS) by the Lagos State Government.

He said the visit would Buhari’s first official visit to the state since he assumed office six months ago, noting that the president would formally commission the three helicopter­s, patrol vehicles, power bikes and other security gadgets

He said: “Buhari’s visit would further witness the rebranding of the RRS as the state’s no-nonsense police response squad against crime and criminalit­y, adding that the President will also join Ambled in handing over the brand new patrol equipment to the Police authoritie­s in the state.

“The equipment to be handed over include three helicopter­s, two patrol boats, 100 motorcycle­s, 13 BM power bikes, 60 Ford salon cars, 55 Ford Rangers, 40 Toyota salon cars, 10 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, 31 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) as well as police uniforms and other kits.”

Ayorinde said the inaugurati­on underscore the seriousnes­s of the state government in ensuring the security of lives and property. With these security equipment, Am bo de has demonstrat­ed his firm commitment and ability to safeguard the lives and property of every Lagosian.

“Thegovernm­ent is convinced this gesture will further boost the morale and capacity of the Police, RRS and other security agencies in the state. It is an attestatio­n to the efficacy of the state’s Security Trust Fund.

“We believe that this will send a clear signal that criminals and armed robbers no longer have hiding place in the state as government will spare no effort in ridding the state of every form of criminalit­y.”
