Buhari to Inaugurate Three Choppers, Two Patrol Boats in Lagos Tomorrow
In a move aimed at declaring war on criminals in Lagos State, President Muhammadu Buhari will inaugurate three helicopters, two patrol boats and 31 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) tomorrow.
The president will also hand over 100 motorcycles, 13 BM power bikes, 60 Ford salon cars, 55 Ford Rangers, 40 Toyota salon cars, 10 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, police uniforms and other kits.
This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, noting that the handing over was part of the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to unleash total war on criminals.
The commissioner said the inauguration of the security equipment would mark the rebranding and repositioning of its Rapid Response Squad (RRS) by the Lagos State Government.
He said the visit would Buhari’s first official visit to the state since he assumed office six months ago, noting that the president would formally commission the three helicopters, patrol vehicles, power bikes and other security gadgets
He said: “Buhari’s visit would further witness the rebranding of the RRS as the state’s no-nonsense police response squad against crime and criminality, adding that the President will also join Ambled in handing over the brand new patrol equipment to the Police authorities in the state.
“The equipment to be handed over include three helicopters, two patrol boats, 100 motorcycles, 13 BM power bikes, 60 Ford salon cars, 55 Ford Rangers, 40 Toyota salon cars, 10 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, 31 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) as well as police uniforms and other kits.”
Ayorinde said the inauguration underscore the seriousness of the state government in ensuring the security of lives and property. With these security equipment, Am bo de has demonstrated his firm commitment and ability to safeguard the lives and property of every Lagosian.
“Thegovernment is convinced this gesture will further boost the morale and capacity of the Police, RRS and other security agencies in the state. It is an attestation to the efficacy of the state’s Security Trust Fund.
“We believe that this will send a clear signal that criminals and armed robbers no longer have hiding place in the state as government will spare no effort in ridding the state of every form of criminality.”
