Will it be a Quiet Year for John Fashanu?
Maybe. He has not made any headlines like he did last year. If there was any title of Drama King of 2015, it would have been lovingly awarded to former British soccer star cum TV presenter John Fashanu. It was as if his Pandora’s Box was open and all the startling secrets crawled out. Starting with his divorce saga with Abigail Onyekwelu, his ex-wife and mother of ex-beauty queen Adaeze Yobo. The couple married in 2009 but by 2014, the marriage was already in shambles.
Tall, handsome Fash the Bash came out in April last year to tell the public that his ex-wife had domestically abused him with pictures to prove his allegations. It was speculated that Abigail had caught him in bed with two women, one being their maid. The smooth eloquent Fash of course denied, rather accused Abigail of being violent and stealing cash from him, which his daughter Amal testified to. The drama got more excited when in the midst of the divorce brouhaha, Fashanu started dating a TV personality based in Abuja, Rachel Bakam.
Later in the year, we saw a more remorseful Fashanu who wished he had not cut ties with his late brother Justin after the latter had revealed to the public that he was gay. In an interview with a British newspaper, Fashanu disclosed that he had offered his late brother £75,000 to keep mum about his sexuality preference. Justin committed suicide in 1988.
With all the drama of last year, one wonders how the New Year will pan out for the soccer stud. Is his Pandora’s Box still open or completely shut?
