- Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

The Coordinator, Gworza, Bama, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp, Durumi, Abuja, Idris Ibrahim Halilu, has said that the plights of the IDPs in various States of the country is a National one which must be tackled head on by government at all levels.

Halilu stated that, the problems confronting the camp were too numerous and chief among them is the rising population with no adequate accommodation, health facilities and security.

He disclosed this while receiving the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Tunde Fowler who was on a visit to camp in Abuja.

According to Halilu, "We are glad to have you people in our midst as friend in need is a friend in deed. We seek for your support. We really thank you for your gestures. We ought you to please come to our aid in terms of good accommodation and empowerment,

"We want to believe that at this challenging time, at this critical time, we believe that you can do more. The Federal Inland revenue service has showed the part others agencies and departments of government should thread and follows its footsteps.

"The IDPs challenge is a national challenge. What is the hope for a child born at the IDPs’ camp? Such an environment is not conducive enough to raise a child.

There should be need to ensure adequate protection and provision of medical services rendered to us. This is an issue that government at various levels should pay serious attention to.

One of the critical problem confronting the IDPs is the population and accommodation. You can see the kind of structures in place here. We are equally battling with health challenges in terms of medications. We want to appeal to you for the need of sick beds, for instance, the pregnant ones amongst us here has no facilities and no ambulance to care for the sick and other emergencies."

He continued: "Other thing is empowerment. Some NGOs came here to trained some of us in different skill acquisitions and we thanked them for their efforts but, since then, the skills acquired amounts to nothing as there are no financial backing.
