Business, Govt Regulators Plan Roundtable to Review Relationship
Chief executives, directors and senior management of the public and private sectors from all parts of Nigeria will meet in Lagos to discuss the frosty relationship between business organisations and government regulators with a view to bridging the communication gap and restore trust and confidence.
The roundtable would promote public, private sector partnership required for national economic harmony and growth. It also presents excellent networking opportunities for all sectors.
BEEC International, one of the leading management consulting and human resource development organisation in Africa that has been in the vanguard of propagating best practice in management and business practice in the continent has setup a two-day business/government regulators roundtable on “Enabling Business Environment and Government Regulators Relationship Management” to discuss the upsurge of fines and sanctions on business.
The theme of the Roundtable is: “Creating an enabling friendly business environment through public and private sector partnership for national economic prosperity”.
The roundtable is aimed at addressing the frosty relationship between business organisations and government regulating authorities, with a view to establishing mutual understanding and trust between the organisations and regulators.
The two-day roundtable will hold from February 29th to March 1, 2016, at the Peninsula Hotel, Lekki Phase 1, Lekki, Lagos. It promises to be exciting, revealing, thought provoking and informative.
According to a statement, the objectives of the two-day roundtable put together by BEEC International, Africa leader in human resource development and learning was designed to bridge the communication gap between the Government Regulators and business; provides business the opportunity to discuss their problems and impact of surge in regulatory sanctions on their business and the economy; discuss its impact on Nigeria’s reputation as a business friendly country; provide the regulatory agencies the platform to discuss their expectations from the private sector; provide opportunity for Networking and team work between the Regulating Agencies and the private sector; discuss and review essential law and regulations for business and discuss relationship management and how to enhance communication.
The business community has in recent times witnessed an aggressive stance by government regulating agencies with a noticeable upsurge in regulatory sanctions.
The business community is alarmed and shocked by the heavy fines imposed on commercial companies by Government Regulating Agencies for alleged breach of their regulations.
“The mistrust and frosty relationship between Business and Regulators is not good for growth of the Nigeria economy. If not checked, it would lead to the collapse of the economy,” the forum said.
Expected to speak at the roundtable are chief executives of government parastatals that are charged with the responsibility of enforcing these regulations. The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, will be in attendance and has congratulated BEEC for the initiative.
