NSE records 3-day gaining streak as ASI gains 0.64%

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Thursday February 11th 2016, was bullish as the stock market closed green today, due to renewed optimism. This was further highlighte­d by positive performanc­es from the NSE Sub sectors Banking, Insurance, and Oil & Gas (save Consumer goods). Trading activities increased in volume as 320.75 million shares worth N1.82 billion in 3,178 deals exchanged hands today. This is an increase from the 169.50 million shares worth N1.52 billion in 2,748 deals carried out on Tuesday. Topping in volume terms was FCMB Group Plc, FBNH Plc and Transcorp Plc, while FBNH Plc and GTB Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms.

The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed positive with a 0.64% (+154.31) increase to 24,135.40 from 23,981.09 the previous trading day. Market Capitaliza­tion appreciate­d in tandem to N8.30 trillion from N8.25 trillion of prior trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also followed suit with a 0.71% increase to close at 98.32 from 97.63 the previous trading day, while its market capitaliza­tion stood at N7.66 trillion from N7.60 trillion of the previous trading day.

A total number of 20 stocks gained on the bourse today while 14 stocks declined, leaving 99 stocks unchanged. FCMG Group Plc emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 7.78% to close at N0.97 per share. It was followed Okomu Oil Palm Plc with a gain of 5.04% to close at N29.40 per share. Others on the gainers list include Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc, P Z Cussons Nigeria Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc while on the decliners’ list Unilever Nigeria Plc led with a loss of 5.00% to close at N31.76 per share. It was followed by 7-Up Bottling Comp. Plc. with a loss of 4.98% to close at N174.79 per share. Others on the losers list include; GSK Plc, Sterling Bank Plc and AIICO Insurance Plc.
