Human Rights Lawyer Launches New Book
Human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, is set to launch his new book titled ‘Zoning to Unzone: the Politics of Power and the Power of Politics’ in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, at the Yar’Adua Centre Area, Abuja.
The book, with its national discourse series, addresses several pressing issues about the nation such as federalism, zoning, rotational presidency, federal character, resource control, devolution of power, presidentialism, minority rights, and as well as Nigeria’s political development and trajectory, from amalgamation till date.
The author, who had been a frontline constitutional lawyer for the voiceless, writes in the book from the vantage position of a patriot, a nationalist, fired by the unquenchable embers of his love and passion for the country.
Before now, the senior advocate has authored several legal and nonlegal related books. By his relentless role in advocating for the masses, he had been detained on numerous occasions during successive military juntas.
Ozekhome holds Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degrees in Law from the University of Ife (OAU) and was called to the Bar, Lagos, in 1981.He is also a visiting lecturer to some Nigerian Universities.
He has been conferred with several Doctorate Degrees (Honoris Causa) and fellowships. In 2014, he was conferred with the Officer of Federal Republic (OFR), by the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, for being a patriotic citizen.
