Gaining streak sustained with modest 0.10% appreciation

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Friday February 12th 2016, was bullish as the stock market closed green today, due to renewed optimism and bargain hunting. This was further highlighted by positive performances from the NSE Sub sectors Banking, Insurance, and Oil & Gas (save Consumer goods). Trading activities increased in volume as 311.60 million shares worth N18.95 billion in 2,588 deals exchanged hands today. This is an increase from the 169.50 million shares worth N1.52 billion in 2,748 deals carried out on Thursday. Topping in volume terms was Wema Bank Plc, GT Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc, while Nigerian Breweries Plc and GT Bank Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms.

The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed positive with a 0.10% (+24.80) increase to 24,689.69 from 24,689.89 the previous trading day. Market Capitalization appreciated in tandem to N8.49 trillion from N8.48 trillion of prior trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also followed suit with a 0.10% increase to close at 100.52 from 100.42 the previous trading day, while its market capitalization stood at N7.83 trillion from N7.82 trillion of the previous trading day.

A total number of 11 stocks gained on the bourse today while 21 stocks declined, leaving 68 stocks unchanged. Forte Oil Plc emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 4.91% to close at N342.00 per share. It was followed Honeywell Flour Mill Plc with a gain of 4.20% to close at N1.49 per share. Others on the gainers list include Custodian And Allied Insurance Plc, Wema Bank Plc and Lafarge Africa Plc while on the decliners’ list Unilever Nigeria Plc led with a loss of 7.02% to close at N29.53 per share. It was followed by Access Bank Plc with a loss of 4.43% to close at N4.10 per share. Others on the losers list include; Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, Cap Plc and Zenith Bank Plc.
