Troops Clear Armed Bandits out of Maru LGA in Borno

The troops of the 1 Division in conjunctio­n with other security agencies have recorded some progress in their ongoing efforts to clear cattle rustlers, armed bandits and kidnappers in the North- west geopolitic­al zone.

To this end, the troops of 223 Battalion, 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army embarked on a patrol to Maru Local Government Area ( LGA) of Zamfara State, where it routed some rustlers in the area.

The Director of Army Public Relations ( DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, in a statement yesterday, said the military killed nine of the bandits who have been responsibl­e in wrecking havoc in several communitie­s in the state.

“During the patrol, the team encountere­d and engaged notorious armed bandits that have been wrecking havoc on the communitie­s.

“The troops killed nine of them, while a few escaped with gun shot wounds,” Usman stated.

He listed the items recovered by the team to include three AK- 47 rifles, four AK- 47 rifle magazines, five rounds of 7.62mm ( Special) ammunition, a machete and 24 motorcycle­s after a thorough combing of the general area.

In a related developmen­t and in a sheer act of bravery, Usman said, local vigilantes at ‘ Yargada village, Gusau Local Government Area apprehende­d another armed bandit.

“Buoyed by this success, the troops morale is very high and are determined to continue to enhance the general security of their respective areas of operation through patrols, raids and clearance operations,” he noted.

He also solicited for more cooperatio­n and support from the public for the military to successful­ly carry out their duties.
