Upward trend sustained as ASI gains 0.25%

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today – Thursday, December 8th, 2016 ends on a bullish note as stock market closed green today. This was further highlighte­d by positive performanc­e from the NSE subsectors: Banking and Insurance (Save Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas). Trading activities decreased in volume as 165.99 million shares worth of N1.27 billion in 2,485 deals exchanged hands today. This is a decrease from the 255.77 million shares worth of N2.08 billion in 2,480 deals which exchanged hands on Wednesday. Topping in volume terms were FBNH Plc, Diamond Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc, while Mobil Nigeria Plc, Nigerian Breweries Plc and Internatio­nal Breweries Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms.

The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed positive with 0.25% (+65.38) increase to close at 25,739.18 from 25,673.80 the previous trading day. Market Capitaliza­tion appreciate­d in tandem to N8.86 trillion from N8.83 trillion of prior trading day. Similarly, the Thisday BGL 50 Index followed suit with an increase of 0.27% to close at 106.97 from 106.68 recorded at the end of the previous trading day, while its market capitaliza­tion stood at 8.33 trillion from 8.31 trillion of the previous trading day.

A total number of 19 stocks gained on the bourse today while 20 stocks declined, 76 leaving stocks unchanged. Forte Oil Plc emerged as the day’s toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 10.24% to close at N96.37 per share. It was followed by Honeywell Flour Mill Plc with a gain of 9.28% to close at N1.06 per share. Others on the gainers list include: Wema Bank Plc, AIICO Insurance Plc and FBN Holdings Plc; while on the decliners’ list, Total Nigeria Plc emerge with a loss of 9.08% to close at N276.05 per share. It was followed by Internatio­nal Breweries Plc with a loss of 5.00% to close at N18.05 per share. Others on the decliners list include: Mobil Oil Nig Plc, Fidson Healthcare Plc and Unilever Nigeria Plc.
