- James Sowole in Akure

Within a month of being sworn in as the Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu has mobilised the State Agency for Road Maintenance and Construction (OSARMCO) to commence work in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Within four weeks, roads works have been done in major towns in the three senatorial districts, just as works have commenced on the internal and access roads of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) in Okitipupa in the southern part of the state.

As at the time of filling this report, work was moving at an appreciable pace while quality is given consideration.

The walkways were already being cast while kerbs are also being constructed just as the components of the car park are being put in place.

The construction of the OSUTECH road came just one week after the Deputy Governor, Chief Agboola Ajayi visited the site of the project which was initiated close to 10 years ago by the administration of Governor Olusegun Agagu.

During the visit, the Deputy Governor assured that the administration of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu would take urgent actions to put in place structures and processes that would make the dream of the institution a reality.

Similarly in the Central Senatorial District, reconstruction of the road linking IlaraMokin with Ikota in Ifedore Local Government Area is in progress with a promise to ensure that the project is delivered in good time.

Grading of the road has been achieved up to the Smokin Hills Golf Course area while priming, as well as asphalting has advanced appreciably.

The road, when eventually completed to Ikota will enable road users from Ilesa and Ibadan attempting to link Orita-Obele area of the state capital and Ijare, as well as other neighbouring towns to avoid the FUTA area thereby reducing traffic challenges in the area drastically.

According to the Chairman of OSARMCO, Mr Kehinde Osikoya, the first phase of Ilara-Mokin-Ikota road would be completed soon while the second phase is expected to follow in due course.

In another development, about 2.5 kilometers of township roads are being constructed in Owo in the Northern Senatorial District.

This is a stretch of the road from the Nigerian Prisons at the GRA to other adjoining streets in the neighbourhood which include Feso Ajanaku Street, Olabanji Sajiyan Street, Victor Obayanju Avenue and Olanrewaju Olateru-Olagbegi Street.

The project has also reached appreciable level as a large percentage of drainage construction has been executed and also filling with laterite is in progress with the officials of the Ondo State Agency For Road Maintenance and Construction assuring that the project would be delivered in good time.

One of the Landlords in the area, Chief Babajide Adefila, who spoke with our correspondent, described the intervention as a sign of a government that was prepared to justify the confidence reposed in it and called on the people to give adequate support to the administration.

In the same vein, a school proprietor in the area, Dr. Phillips Oteruku expressed hope that the step taken by Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu would go a long way in changing the orientation of not only the residents but also the road users in the area and therefore commended the step taken by the governor to hit the ground running.

Meanwhile, Osinkoya said the agency would deliver according to the mandate given to it by the state government.
