Two Businessmen Kidnapped in Sokoto

Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped two businessmen in Giyawa town of Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

THISDAY checks yesterday revealed that the duo were kidnapped on Sunday night.

It was gathered that the family of the abducted businessmen had been thrown into agony as a result of the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer and Superintendent of Police, Sokoto State Police Command, Al-Mustapha Sani, confirmed the incident to THISDAY in Sokoto yesterday.

According to him, it was the family of the businessmen that informed the Area Commander in the area as soon as the incident occurred.

Sani gave the names of the abducted businessmen as Alhaji Labbo Giyawa and Alhaji Murtala Dantata.

The PPRO disclosed that the command had swung into action by deploying detectives to the area.

He said the Command was making frantic efforts with a view to securing the release of the victims.

“They were abducted by some gun-wielding gunmen, while they were reportedly sleeping in the frontage of their various houses.

‘’ They were said to have been taken to an unknown destination, but, the police is suspecting that they were being held captive in the nearby Gundumi forest.’’

“We have already sent detectives to the area so as to rescue the victims. I am optimistic that by God’s grade, they will be released soon,” Sani added.

The PPRO however, added that the kidnappers were yet to establish communication with either their families or the police.
