Minister Seeks Increased Enrolment into FG Colleges

-

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has called on Bauchi State government to ensure increased enrolment of students into federal government colleges.

Adamu, who was represented by a Deputy Director, Unity Schools, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Omale Otete Frank on an advocacy and sensitisation visit to Bauchi State Ministry of Education, said the visit was for northern candidates’ enrolment drive into the National Common Entrance Examinations (NCEE) in the country.

He regretted that the enrolment rate in most northern states is low and solicited the support of the state government and all stakeholders in this year’s examination coming up on April 8.

The minister pointed out that secondary education is critical in the development of every nation, as it prepares the individual to acquire some basic skills for higher education. Thus he said the federal government established unity colleges to serve as a reference point for academic excellence.

The delegation that was in Bauchi for advocacy and sensitisation to states with low enrolment drive over the years, called on the state ministry of education to take the advocacy to the grassroots level.

Receiving the visitors on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Nuhu Gidado, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed Yelwa, thanked the delegation for the visit and promised to intimate the commissioner with a view of taking steps to increase enrolment in the state.

He said the ministry would soon appoint a desk officer to coordinate all activities regarding the entrance examination for the state.
