DEATH BE THY NOT PROUD… AS BANK TAKES OVER LATE FLORENCE SERIKI’S ASSETS
The fluid had hardly dried off the deceased body of Florence Seriki, Founder Of Omatek Computers, when the Bank of Industry to which she was reportedly hugely indebted, moved in, confiscating her assets. Mrs Seriki had battled pancreatic cancer till her last days and eventually succumbed in March. Sadly, some of the assets she laboured for all her life have now been confiscated by the BOI as Omatek Computers which she founded about 20 years ago could no longer discharge its outstanding indebtedness to the bank. Her life was an endless struggle. A chemical engineering graduating of the Obafemi Awolowo University, she started out as a vendor of computer parts before setting up Omatek Ventures in 1987, as a local computer assembling plant in Lagos. In 1993, she launched the Omatek brand of computers. She later expanded the business by opening a branch of Omatek in Ghana and another branch in Singapore later. And the business grew so much that it was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Beneath her exterior of prosperity however laid the pains of her ailment and the pangs of loans she took to expand her business. With her demise, the banks have taken over her most valuable earthly possessions.
