Fertigold Laments High Cost of IVF Treatments in Nigeria

The Head of Operations, Fertigold Fertility Clinic, Lagos, Olajide Wilson, has lamented the high cost of Invitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment in Nigeria, especially as majority of those affected are low income earners.

He said infertility was already a frustrating and emotionally draining condition as many couples see the inability to have a child as a failure on their part. Adding that this unfortunate feeling is reinforced, especially in the low to middle-level income earners, by the high cost of accessing treatment for their condition which many are unable to afford.

Stating this at a forum organised for fertility-challenged couples in Ikorodu axis of Lagos by the Clinic, Wilson said it was in the light of the situation that Fertigold Fertility Clinic is reducing the cost of IVF treatment to 57 per cent of the actual cost of same procedure in the other quality IVF centres in the country.

He said: “Given the economic situation in the country and the emotional needs of the couples battling infertility, fertility clinics should do all they could to lighten the burden of these couples by reducing the cost of accessing IVF treatment, after all, the well-being of patients is at the core of the essence of medical practice.

“FFC, an ultra-modern IVF centre, is offering renewed hope to couples dealing with infertility challenges in Nigeria,” he added.

He said the centre offers full range of fertility services including Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI), Ovulation Induction, Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Ovum Recipient Cycle, Testicular Sperm Aspiration, Embryo Freezing, sperm freezing, oocyte freezing and In-vitro Fertilization (IVF). Other services include, Frozen Embryo Transfer, Pre-implantation Genetic Analysis, Sperm Freezing, and Cyst Drainage.
