GCU Old Boys Hold Colloquium

The Lagos Branch of the Old Boys Associatio­n of the prestigiou­s secondary institutio­n, Government College, Ughelli, (Class of 1973 September), will hold a colloquium on the theme, ‘Raising a Wise Generation: revamping Nigeria’s secondary education,’ today at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos at 10a.m.

Billed as a high-profile starstudde­d intellectu­al fest, the event is designed to bring the issue of secondary education in the country on the front burner.

The colloquium is parading an array of special guest speakers with high roller stature in Nigeria’s developmen­t, especially in the area of education in the country.

These include: Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State who will speak on the topic, ‘The Girl Child’; Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State who is focusing on ‘Grassroots Education’; and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State whose topic is ‘Education and Restive Youth.’

Other speakers are: Nsima Ekere, the Managing Director of NNDC who is speaking on the topic, ‘Fixing Infrastruc­ture’; the business mogul, Aliko Dangote, is giving a talk on ‘Private Sector Stakes’; Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar, JAMB, is dissecting the issue, ‘Curriculum/ Syllabus’; and Herbert Wigwe, MD, Access Bank Plc, will focus on the topic, Financing.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, is billed to dwell on the topic, ‘Buhari administra­tion’s Vision,’ while the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Council, Professor Itsey Sagay, an old boy of the school, is presenting the topic, ‘An Old Boy’s Perspectiv­e.’

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, is the chief host and will deliver a keynote address. Senator Oluremi Tinubu is the special guest of honour while the chairperso­n of the occasion is the renowned educationi­st and university administra­tor, Professor Grace Alele.
