Onashile Emerges as NIQS President

Mr. Obafemi Oluwale Onashile last Saturday night emerged the new President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS).

Onashile was sworn in alongside eight other members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Institute at the end of the profession­al body’s Biennial Election and General Meeting (BEGM) which was held in Abuja between November 14 and 18.

The new NIQS president, 53, is an accomplish­ed and resourcefu­l consultant Quantity Surveyor succeeds QS Mercy Torkwase Iyortyer whose two year term of office expired on Saturday.

The Institute had earlier adopted him as its President-in-Waiting following his election as Deputy President at its BEGM held in Lagos in 2015.

Onashile, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FNIQS) holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Quantity Surveying from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Master’s degree in Project Management from the University of Lagos.

He is the Group Manging Partner of Consol Associates Limited with Head Office in Lagos and offices in Abuja, Ghana and Rwanda.

A Fellow of the Royal Institutio­n of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the number one Quantity Surveyor in the country was until last month the Vice President of the African Associatio­n of Quantity Surveyors (AAQS).

In his acceptance speech, the new president promised to enhance the capacity of Quantity Surveyors by availing them new skills and training that will enable them to cope with the increasing­ly challengin­g complex nature of constructi­on projects and also to reposition the profession to take its pride of place in the Built Industry.
