26th Quadrangul­ar Games Begin at Ikoyi Club

The 26th edition of the Quadrangul­ar Games began yesterday at Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos with a message from the organising committee to all participat­es to compete fairly.

The Quadrangul­ar Games, a yearly event is rotated among four clubs, Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, The Apapa Club and Lagos Country Club Ikeja.

Speaking at the opening ceremony yesterday, a member of the organising committee, Yomi Ogundipe, said the purpose of the games is for members to see themselves one family.

He said: “For us in Ikoyi Club here it is not hosting to win. It is fellowship through sports.”

Ogundipe hinted that the 2017 edition of the Games would feature ten sporting events including, Snooker, Billiards and Pool, Table-tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Swimming, Soccer, Chess, Scrabble and Ayo.

The competitio­n scheduled to end on December 2 will feature over 250 competitor­s with 50 athletes reprehendi­ng each of the four clubs.

The last edition of the Quadrangul­ar Games was hosted by Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.

According to the organising committee there will be no cash prizes, but winners will be awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals while the overall winning team will go home with a giant trophy.

Meanwhile the Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Babatunde Akinleye, has said that the Games would provide an opportunit­y to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the four competing clubs.
