A group, Network of Enterprising Women of Nigeria (NEWN), has encouraged women entrepreneurs to take advantage of the business prospects in the country to achieve self-sufficiency and help the economy to grow.
The group tabled this at the just concluded trade fair organised for female entrepreneurs in Lagos. The fair which sought to support and promote collaborative effort among business owners had over 65 businesses and corporate organisations in attendance.
Representative of NEWN, Mrs. Augusta Nwokafor, harped on the strengths of partnership in achieving business growth. According to her, business could only thrive on partnership that works, noting that this had impacted the way the group interact and works for business growth.
She said: “The fair is focused on adding value that will ensure sustainability of businesses and see members contributing to national economic growth.
“Most of our members have never been to business schools but run successful enterprises. This is because we support and motivate both members and nonmembers alike to strive for excellence. The network is about inspiring women to step out of the shadow to do big things that will not only impact their families but also the Nigerian economy.”
“The truth is that a lot of people who desire to commence a particular business would need someone in same business line to put them through. This is why we have also come up with a mentorship programmme to identify and support young entrepreneurs to be independent. We identify challenges faced by new businesses and encourage experienced members to mentor new business to successfully navigate the start-up phase. Our earnest desire is to see our members meet their goals. People are registering as either mentors or mentees.”
Products and services showcased at the fair ranged from beauty and lifestyle products to fashion accessories and healthcare products. Others are food and drinks, property consultancy, educational placement services and catering services.
