AMBODE AND DEPLORABLE AJAO ESTATE ROADS

-

Ijoin my voice to those who had earlier, though unsuccessfully, called the attention of the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to the deplorable state of roads across the length and breadth of Ajao Estate, a sprawling settlement off the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road. While the efforts of the Ambode-led administration to expand the airport road and Oshodi-Apapa Expressway to give the place a facelift are laudable, the governor should be urged not to neglect Ajao Estate as previous administrations had done. While the Light-up Lagos project has helped in giving night life in major parts of Lagos a boost through illumination of the streets, it is sad to note that the streets of Ajao Estate are in pitch darkness at night as the project was not extended to the area. But the area where the state government’s neglect of the estate is most noticeable is in the deplorable condition of the roads. The roads are at best craters that damage vehicles and cause residents and motorists anguish and discomfort. A visit to streets like Olutosin Ajayi, Cobham, Akinola Sholanke, Akinsanya, Joy Avenue and others is enough to leave a first time visitor or investor to the famed Mega City with the worst type of impression about the state government.

I therefore use this medium to once again call on Governor Ambode to direct the Lagos State Public Works Corporation or any other agency of the state responsible for fixing and repairing roads to mobilise to the estate without further delay to salvage the situation. It is a shame that a reputable estate like Ajao hosting many financial institutions, organisations and home to many notable Lagosians is in such a state of infrastructural decay.
