- Mohammed Aminu inSokoto

Senator representing Sokoto Central Senatorial District, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, yesterday said he is committed to getting the youths educated to all levels.

Wamakko who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, spoke when the members of the Sokoto State Law Students' Association, Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto state chapter, paid him a courtesy call.

According to him, this is to make the young ones to become mature and productive, and become responsible members of the society.

''Human empowerment and development means a lot to me and I am always happy to see the people educated.

'' Education is key to success in life and when you give education to the youths, you have developed the society in its entirety.

''Education is one thing that when you give it to anyone, he will become organised and live a decent life for the benefit of himself and the society,"he said.

Wamakko posited that by giving education to the youths one is at war with illiteracy, idleness, drug abuse and other social vices, as well as crime.

"That is why I am currently sponsoring hundreds of students in Niger Republic, Benin, Uganda, Pakistan, Turkey and United Kingdom, among others."

Wamakko promised to sponsor the members of the Association to the forthcoming annual cational convention of Nigerian law students in Lagos.

He also accepted to be the Grand Patron of the Association, as well as sponsor the production of their hitherto moribund Journal.

In a remark, the President of the Association, Abdulmumini Abdullah, said the visit was to seek his sustained fatherly prayers and support to the Association.

The President noted that Wamakko had during his stint as the Governor of the state, approved the payment of the Law School registration fees for all the successful final year law students from the state before their departure to the institution.

According to him, each of the benefiting final year law student from the state was then given about N350,000, courtesy of the gesture.

"Wamakko has become a father to all the citizens of the state and the members of the association," he stated.

He commended the lawmaker for his outstanding contributions to law making, peace building and sustenance of peace in the state and Nigeria, in general.
