Izunaso Empowers Special Citizens in Imo, Marks New Year

Amidst the nation’s harsh economic climate occasioned by the raging recession, succour eventually came to the special citizens in Imo state when on Thursday, a Non Profit, Non-religious and non-government­al Organizati­on, Kpakpando Foundation celebrated New Year for them and freely dished out gifts to ocushion their predicamen­t.

The Largesse (gifts) which cut across the 27 Local Government Areas and 634 autonomous communitie­s in the state include: sewing machines, wheel chairs, grinding machines, cooking utensils, clutches, customized bags of rice and Generating sets.

Founder/Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the foundation, Senator Osita Izunaso while doling out the items at his private residence in Owerri explained that and it was in line with the visions and mission of the Organizati­on to make life more meaningful for the beneficiar­ies, promote economic self reliance among them and accord them a sense of belonging in society.

Senator Izunaso who hails from Ohakpu, in the Oru west council area and is the National Organizing Secretary of the All Progressiv­e Congress (APC) said that the foundation establishe­d twelve (12) years ago, has the ambition to provide jobs to not few than 500 disabled persons annually across the state, adding that arrangemen­t had been put in place to establish its offices in each of the 27 LGAs in the state.

He expressed optimism that the President would soon assent to the bill on disability to put more smiles on the faces of all the disabled individual­s in the country.

According to him, the APC has made a provision in its constituti­on which now enables members of the disabled community in the country to have representa­tives at the state, Local Government and wards executive councils to smoothen the resolution of their numerous challenges.

“We are here today to celebrate the new year which is a special year for the Kpakpando Foundation. This foundation which was establishe­d in 2006 has continued to attain greater height in realizing its objectives and I want you all to grow along with it. We will continue to touch many lives as we progress”, he assured.
