Okun Development Association Backs Rejection of Cattle Colony
The Okun Development Association, South West Zone has backed the position of its national body which rejected the provision of land for cattle colonies in their area and state.
According to a statement by Chief Akere Owoniyi on behalf of the body, “The Fulani herdsmen are no doubt a menace to the Nigerian society having made sure that their dastardly acts are spanning through the nation. There have been several attacks on Benue, Taraba, Nassarawa, while Ekiti has moved quickly to prevent a breakdown of law and order, Oyo state has had a share of their menace too.
“In a time like this when a group of people have become renowned for their illegal and life threatening activities, accommodating them is unwise. The decision of Governor Yahaya Bello to make the Fulani Herdsmen indigenes of Kogi State by granting them the possession of a portion of land in Okun community, Kogi state cannot result into anything other than chaos and war soonest and later in the future.
“This cannot and must not be seen as a move to befriend this notorious group that has unleashed death on many families in our dear nation recently.
“There are many questions to ask: what would be the psychological impact of the Governor’s action on the people currently living in such area? Does anyone celebrate the proximity of killers? How would this affect social, educational and religious balance of the society?.
