The Lychee Français, a French school in Lagos has expressed its readiness to assist in financing young researchers that wish to tackle climate change.

The school will also help fund fieldwork for social sciences, master students in selected universities.

The French School Higher Education Attaché, Leila Mathieu, who disclosed this recently, while briefing journalists on the French education fair 2018, which kicked-off in Abuja on February 12 and February 14 at the school premises in Victoria Island, said the fair will be institutional, as high level representatives of high education system will hold roundtable discussions on the best way to make Nigerian universities collaborate with others, as well as how to organize student exchanges between France and Nigeria.

“The meeting will be hosted by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and topics on how to reach a national agreement on mutual recognition of degrees and certificates will be discussed. Some of the French and Nigerian universities have already entered into MoUs.

“In Lagos, the fair will be a traditional students’ fair allowing them and their parents to come and meet some of our universities and schools. Scholarship awarding institutions such as PTDF will be present. Information will be provided on how to apply to what kind of programmes for what kind of life project. The visa procedure will also be explained.”

Mathieu said the French fair will be an opportunity for Nigerian students to meet with some of their best institutions, adding that states, universities and government parastatals like PTDF have partnered with the school on scholarships.

Emphasising on students’ international mobility, she said Nigerian students going to France are exposed to different education in a dynamic centre of innovation and research.

“Our current government strongly believes in that. In a way Franco- Nigerian relations have never been so dynamic, but strengthening our ties requires exchanges and permanent dialogue at all levels in order to improve mutual understanding.”
