Baker Strikes Gold with GOtv’s Window of Golden Opportunity

- Kunle Adewale

r. Caleb Olagunju, a 35-year old father of three and proprietor of a newly opened medium-sized bakery in the Iju area of Lagos, wanted something to make his workplace more exciting for himself and more importantly, his customers.

According to him, a few ideas raced through his mind but he found none appealing enough to provoke action. Late in January, however, Olagunju found his ‘eureka moment’. It came shortly after the launch of the GOtv Golden Window Offer. The bakery owner said he was leafing through a newspaper when he saw a report on GOtv Golden Window, which he initially wanted to ignore. He did not have much to do at work. His staff had just begun baking and he felt he could invest time in reading. What he read interested him. GOtv was offering, exclusively, to potential subscribers the opportunity to join the world of digital television experience through the GOtv Golden Window Offer.

The report said that new subscribers, who buy the full GOtv kit for N5, 900 will be automatically upgraded to the GOtv MAX package. It equally stated that monthly subscription for the pack- age is N3,800 per month.

“I asked myself what was available for N3,800,” Olagunju recalled. The answer was access to over 60 top class entertainment channels spanning sports, movies, series, reality shows and kiddies’ programming amongst others,” the bakery owner said. He then discovered a sweetener; should the subscriber, within 10 days of the decoder activation, pay subscription for an extra month, he or she gets an additional free one-month subscription. This means the subscriber would enjoy three months uninterrupted access to exciting local and international channels on the GOtv MAX package.

A football fan and supporter of Spanish giants, Barcelona, Olagunju said what caught his eye was the fact that GOtv MAX offers the full complement of matches of the prestigious La Liga on SuperSport Select 4. The package also boasts of select matches of the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League as well as other sport programming.

He then thought of his customers, who have to endure long wait to take bread from his bakery, and was convinced that providing them with something to watch while they wait would make their wait less of an ordeal. With GOtv MAX also offer- ing access to the latest and hottest movies on Fox Entertainment and Sony Max, the Africa Magic channels, reality shows on CBS Reality, local and international news, music celebrity as well as children programming, he felt his customers have a rich buffet to choose from.

He decided to buy a GOtv decoder to enjoy the offer.

Since he activated, said the bakery owner, his customers, including those accompanied by their children are no longer impatient while waiting for bread.

“Most times, it is on one of the Africa Magic channels. My customers just sit on benches and enjoy themselves. When we work at night, we switch channels, depending on what most people at work want to watch. Of course, if Barcelona is playing or there is a big live match, there is dictatorship of some sort. I simply decide the match is what we must watch. We can debate the options later,” he said jokingly.

Meanwhile, at home Olagunju does not have such ‘dictatorial’ privileges. The baker confirmed he also has a GOtv Max subscription running and it is his kids who decide what to watch

“There are no prizes for guessing that cartoons are what they watch. Of course, my wife, who loves Zee World and Telemundo finds a way to get them give her an opportunity whenever she wants to watch any of her favourite programmes,” he said.

In a short time spanning a little over 6 years, the company continues to push envelope in providing its customers with quality video entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Coming hot on the heels of the launch of GOtv Max in October 2017, following which active GOtv Plus subscribers were automatically upgraded to the new package at no extra cost, the Golden Window offer presents another opportunity for Nigerians to take advantage of the robust content offering on the said package.

In a statement issued by the company, Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe said this offer will allow more Nigerians enjoy digital television services at an affordable cost. At N3,800 the package boasts of a selection of premium content featuring the best of Spanish league action, La Liga, an upgraded suite of movies and the latest series, reality shows and more kiddies’ programming. It’s another example of how we shape the business in response to our customers’ needs.’

The GOtv Golden Window offer commenced in January and is still available to new customers till 31 March.
