Aisha Ahmed’s Confirmation Excites Young Diaspora Professionals
Where great role models are in short supply and genuine mentorship uncommon, any appearance of these two necessities usually provides a strong sense of hope and excitement. And that’s exactly the mood right now with a group of young Nigerian professionals in the UK, mostly young women, over the confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Aisha Ahmed as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN).
Aisha, a young but experienced financial expert, was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as deputy governor of CBN months ago. But such a crucial appointment is never complete without the firm confirmation of the Senate.
That said, all is now fully settled as Aisha, a holder of a Master of Science degree in Finance and Management from the Cranfield School of Management in the UK, who has received the nod of the Senate and can now undertake all official duties as her new position demands.
It’s indeed cheery news that is making meaning beyond the shores of Nigeria.
A member of XcelNigeria, UK, a body that is made up of mostly young female Nigerians who are drawn from different walks of life, said: “It’s worth stating that this is just one of the ways Nigeria can prove that it’s truly committed to “Press for Progress” on gender parity in line with the theme of International Women’s Day 2018 as marked a few weeks ago.
“The efforts towards bridging the gender gap in the country shouldn’t be left on the strength of the women who are striving to break barriers and create paths for others, the institutions of state and policies of government should also work to push for progress in similar direction”,
“Aisha is a beacon of hope for many young Nigerians home and away. She has proven herself on many fronts as a role model and what the government and its institutions have just done is putting her up there for better service to the nation and to inspire more Nigerian women both within and outside of the country”.
The 41- year- old- banker, Aisha, was, prior to her appointment, the Executive Director ( Retail Banking) at Diamond Bank Plc and chairperson of the executive council of Women in Management, Business and Public Service, WIMBIZ, a Nigerian non- profit organisation focused on addressing issues affecting the interest of women professionals in business, with particular attention on promoting leadership development and building capacities to engender growth.
