My Incarceration is Divine, Says Jang

- In Jos

The senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly, Jonah Jang, has said his incarceration is divine lest any man boast of sending him to prison.

In a goodwill message to the 94th General Church Council of Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) through his former Commissioner for Information and Communication, Pastor Yiljap Abraham, the former state governor said: “For me, being in the prison is a great lesson in humility. When I was at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja, I slept on the floor, but here in the prison, I have the privilege of sleeping in the same bed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo slept when in Jos Prison.”

But his successor, Simon Bako Lalong, apparently responding to him, said he was aware that he would give account of his stewardship when he vacates the office as governor, adding that everyone should be humble to accept his imperfection.

The governor also said he was also one time a visitor of the prison and had spent 40 days and also received a lot of revelations from God.

Lalong also stated this at the same occasion at COCIN headquarters.

He said: “Before I became the Governor of Plateau State, as a Speaker of the state House of Assembly then, I also slept 40 days in prison, and when I was there, I received a lot of revelations, and I was ready to face the allegations against me and was also cleared at the end of the day.

“Now as a governor, I know when I vacate the office, there will be a time for me to account for my stewardship, but when somebody refuses to humble himself to accept his imperfections, then the law takes it over.”

Lalong urged the church leadership to pray for his administration as well as the unity of the state, saying he views the church leaders as partners in the formulation of policies of government.

Jang was ordered by the Jos High Court to be remanded at the Jos prison pending the determination of his bail application on May 24, 2018.

While in the prison, Jang paid fines for about fifty inmates and lead the prayer session in the prison during church on Sunday.

He has also helped the prison authority settle backlog of electricity bill its owing the distribution company, a situation that has made electricity available in the prison.
