Three lucky Nigerian football fans are to win all-expense paid trip to train and play with Chelsea Football stars in London this year in the ongoing Rexona’s ‘Street to Stamford’ campaign.

Unilever Nigeria’s Rexona deodorant brand recently kicked off a series of consumer engagement activities through a universal shared passion for the beautiful game of football.

Dubbed the “Rexona Street to Stamford”, the campaign is a national competition from which three very lucky Nigerian representatives will be selected to be part of an Africa 11 team, to train and play with the Chelsea Football stars at their home in London, UK.

The ongoing consumer activation which is generating much awareness for the brand at several touch points including major shopping malls, tertiary institutions (university and college campuses), playfields and at high traffic locations across Lagos, Enugu, Abuja etc. has so far engaged thousands of exciting consumers.

The very lucky consumers to be selected during the “Street to Stamford” tournament will spend three days in July 2018, with a team of local (Nigerian) and international coaches, including popular sports influencers at the training academy grounds of Teslim Balogun Stadium, in Lagos.

Speaking about the ongoing national consumer engagement activities for the Rexona Street to Stamford Campaign, Category Manager Skin Care & Deos, Unilever Nigeria, Adetoun Adegbite, said: “Our goal is to drive for brand connection through our consumers’ passion for football especially in light of our global partnership with Chelsea FC.

“Thus, through our brand engagement, we continue to reflect the love and pride that our consumers have for the game, as well as reinforcing the functional benefits of Rexona deodorant in positively causing life changing opportunities, especially for young Nigerians,” observed the Unilever official. Former Captain of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, is excited by the endorsement given to his pet project, The Joseph Yobo Sports Academy by the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Last Wednesday, the former Everton FC defender was guest of the Governor at his Alausa office in Ikeja where they discussed youth and sports development in the state and Nigeria.

According to Yobo, Governor Ambode welcomed the idea of the academy and endorsed the project. The Governor further described it as a meaningful venture that the state is proud to be associated with.

“Governor Ambode has shown commitment to empowering the citizens of Lagos and recognises the role of sports beyond its significant ability to boost the economy but the ability to harness the potential and overall development of the youths,” stressed Yobo who was capped 101 times by the three-time AFCON champions.

He led Eagles to winning AFCON 2013 in South Africa before calling it quit with international duty for Nigeria.

The Ogoni-born ex-international said his academy was modeled on the premise that football and academic pursuits are supposed to go hand-in-hand.

“My academy model is based on the belief that sports excellence and academic pursuit are not mutually exclusive. I welcome his support for my project and the people of Lagos and Nigerians who would be beneficiaries of it,” he stressed further.

Yobo whose testimonial match in Port Harcourt drew top African and European players (including his former coach at Everton, David Moyes), hopes when fully functional, the academy will also help discover talents for the national teams.

“The sports and educational academy will discover new talents for the country. In addition, it will help the country to have educated sportsmen.”

“In addition, it will provide kids the opportunity to explore different sports discipline with quality professional instruction,” concludes the Rivers man.

Yobo revealed that the academy to be situated in Lagos is expected to take off this year but would be fully operational in 2019.
