CSR: Serengeti Unveils Campaign to Protect Endangered Species

- Raheem Akingbolu

As part of its contributions to the society, Serengeti, an out-of-home company and subsidiary of Troyka Holdings, has launched a campaign to sensitise members of the public on the need to protect some endangered species and prevent their going into extinction because of peoples’ hostile behaviour towards them.

The outdoor agency is partnering with international bodies like FEPE International, a worldwide association of outdoor advertising companies and National Geographic to replicate and deepen the message of the campaign, in at least, 20 countries of the world annually.

Speaking at the unveiling of ‘A Voice for The Endangered Species’ a campaign conceptu- alised to take the message to various quarters and countries of the world, the Managing Director of Serengeti, Tolu Idris, traced the origin of the agency’s CSR to its connection with human nature and animals.

He pointed out that all the agency’s platforms and structures were named after various animals because the name Serengeti connotes human nature. ‘’In Nigeria, we are the voice of the endangered species; we are the one that are telling Nigerians that animals are important for the eco system. We are dropping our art to say we are humanitarian, we are love of animals,” he said.

While calling on other Nigerian companies and individuals to join the campaign, Idris pointed out that the campaign was a humanitarian cause without any financial gain.

“Serengeti as a company, from its name, tells you that it connotes a convergence space for animals. Our name shows the DNA we have All the physical investment we have out there are named after various animals.

‘’In line with World Endangered Species day (18 May, 2018) and as part of our corporate social responsibility, we organised the event to lend our voice and contribute towards ensuring preservation of species (animals and plants) on the planet.

“The event highlighted how our individual activities increase preservation or extinction of species,’’ he said.

To further advance this cause and create awareness to citizens, he stated that the company would be displaying campaigns of top endangered species in the world, on some of its strategic outdoor digital sites in Lagos. Some of the animals he mentioned were; the Lion - a 12m x 42m giant screen at Adeniji by 3rd Mainland Bridge and the Elephant - 20m x 30m screen within PHCN Yard, Ijora, along Eko Bridge. Others are; the Giraffe - 2-sided 20m x 10m portrait screen by Apongbon Market and the Rhino - 2-sided 10m x 20m screens at local airport taxi park, Ikeja. The campaign is expected to last for a week.

Speaking on the operations of the company, the MD said Serengeti, is a value-driven provider of premium and innovative OOH solutions that deliver targeted audiences engagements with associated data on attribution across physical and digital media; while delighting our customers.
