On Adams Oshiomhole
When next the Transparency International (TI), the United States annual report and the World Bank adjudged Nigeria as regressing in the fight against corruption the Nigerian government should be reminded that the ammunition for such recognition are routinely provided by the government itself. In the face of credible and overwhelming allegations of corruption against the former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, including the conspicuous physical evidence of a billions of naira worth mansion in his village, the All Progressives Congress (APC) went ahead to elect a man with this corruption albatross as the new Party chairman by acclamation. And no sooner did he assume office than Oshiomhole embarked on throwing stones from his glass house. Knowing fully well that he was echoing the lie orchestrated by his principal, President Buhari, he called for the arrest of Obasanjo to account for the sixteen billion dollars power ministry scam of their imagination. Well here is a response by a cool and sober head who should know
“I do recall that even as Vice President at the World Bank, from what the federal government made available as at that time showed that as at 2007, $3.5 billion had gone into these NIP projects. So, when I see sometimes, figures that get bandied around, I say part of the culture we must have as citizens is to say that whenever figures show up, we must interrogate them. We need to have a habit to interrogate data, otherwise they will be part of the political rascality of not wanting to be accountable to the society,”
