Students of the Noble Heights Leadership Academy, a secondary school for only girls aged 11-16 in the Federal Capital Territory have been urged to take advantage of the digital era and improve on themselves intellectually, character-wise and most importantly, find the essence for why they were created.

The guest speaker, a reproductive and child healthcare expert, Dr. Mairo Mandara, who gave the charge at the graduation ceremony of 16 students of the school, emphasised that as they leave the confines of a secondary school environment for a much complex world, social justice, equity and integrity must be part of their lives in all they do.

She said although difficult, they must ensure that they spare some minutes for themselves on a daily basis and those moments should be used for reflection and assessment of how far they have fared, while stressing that when the realities of life come, how they have trained their minds will be forces that will stand and speak for them.

“We must learn to create a barrier and space where the human mind can think. You have to create time especially before going to bed to reflect on what you have done or achieved during the day. The only difference between humans and animals is that we think. Once we stop that, we become as low as animals. It is not easy but it is important and needful.

“Finding yourself is not rhetoric; finding yourself and essence is the reason for creation. You must know who you are and must find that for yourself and not walking in the image of your father.

“You must realise that you have to work hard. You must not have money or children to be happy neither do you need marriage to find fulfilment and happiness. When the chips are down, you are who you are, devoid of family and all you love and have worked for which has eroded you. You must be conscious of your environment and social justice and equity for others should be your watch word,” she said.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor of the CBN, Mrs. Aisha Ahmed, who promised to donate a new inspirational book to all students of the school.
